Best sunrise spots in Madeira

1.    Pico Ruivo (Santana)
pico_ruivo

Pico Ruivo is the highest peak in Madeira and one of the highest in Portugal. Due to its elevation (1862 m) it is very likely that the sunrise appears above the clouds and that is why we call it a “sea of clouds” sunrise. The only problem is that you have to walk from Achada do Teixeira in the dark, to reach Pico ruivo (not accessible by car) and it's 2.3 kilometers on foot (round trip).

2.    Ponta de São Lourenço (Caniçal)

This is without a doubt, one of the best places to see the sunrise, because you can have a northeast and southeast perspective of the island. Also, due to the color of the soil and low mountain elevation, you can take amazing pictures, resembling the “golden hour”.

3.    Ninho da Manta (Pico do Arieiro)

ninho-da-manta

This peak is the highest peak in Madeira that is accessible by car (1818 meters). For this spot, you must do a 30 minute walk to a viewpoint. It most known for the sunrise and sunset scenery and is indeed a must-do while in Madeira. Due to its high elevation, the “sea of clouds” scenery is also visible.
